Citizenship Day was signed into law by President Harry Truman on February 29, 1952. It was established to replace Constitution Day and I Am an American day. Constitution Day recognized the official signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 1787. I Am an American Day was celebrated in May and was a day to recognize new naturalized United States citizens. Today it is day to celebrate our Citizenry into this country as our founding fathers had envisioned when they completed and signed the Constitution.
