Astronomically, the summer solstice is the day with the longest hours of daylight in the northern hemisphere. It has been long celebrated by pagans and other astronomically oriented people.
This day is sacred to the great mother goddess especially Cerridwen. Bonfires are lit and flaming torches were carried around buildings in a sunwise dirrection to bless them. |
